Description
What kind of wine is it
Etna Rosso Villa dei Baroni by Carranco is a still red wine with controlled designation of origin from Sicily, which interprets the territory through a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. Aged in large oak barrels after fermentation in cement vats, it presents a ruby colour that is not too intense and reveals aromas of red fruits combined with delicate floral notes. On the palate, it is balanced, with hints of strawberry and black cherry accompanied by accents of black pepper and rhubarb. The structure is supported by a savoury and silky tannin, which ensures a long persistence capable of developing complex tertiary and animal notes over time.
Where does it come from
The grapes are grown in Castiglione di Sicilia, in Contrada Carranco, on the northern slope of Etna. The vineyards are located at five hundred metres above sea level on volcanic soils particularly rich in minerals. The fifty-year-old vines, trained using the spur-pruned cordon method, favour a clear expression of the fruit. This geographical position gives the wine a marked freshness and a defined mineral imprint, enhancing a savoury tannic texture that fully reflects the Sicilian territorial identity.
How is it produced
Production begins with the harvest in mid-October. Fermentation takes place in cement vats at a controlled temperature to best manage extraction and maintain the aromatic precision of the grapes. The wine then matures in large Slavonian oak barrels for about twelve months. This ageing process calibrates the structure while respecting the identity of the grape varieties, resulting in a harmonious red with a persistent finish, ideal for pairing with red meats, cured meats and mature cheeses.

Carranco was born from the meeting of Borgogno and Tornatore, a blend of history, experience, and authentic Ethnean roots.
The vineyards are located on the volcano's northern flank, and only traditional methods of vinification are used. It only grows native vines, primarily Nerello Mescalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Carricante, which are the purest expressions of Etna, and it is from the volcanic soils that they draw the power, strength, and explosiveness of each eruption.
