Description

What kind of wine it is

Christian Bellei Spumante Metodo Classico Brut is a refined interpretation by Cantina della Volta, made from Lambrusco di Sorbara grapes. This sparkling wine displays a brilliant straw yellow colour, enhanced by a fine and persistent perlage. The aromatic bouquet is harmonious, with delicate floral notes giving way to fresh hints of apple. On the palate, it is broad and enveloping, offering a dynamic sip with long persistence. Served chilled, it pairs beautifully with white fish dishes, cheeses, and light starters.

Where it comes from

Production takes place in Emilia-Romagna, specifically in Bomporto, where the winery overlooks the banks of the historic Naviglio canal. The activity is carried out in the original Bellei family building, who have been winegrowers since 1920. The brand name recalls the ancient eighteenth-century dock where barges performed the turning manoeuvre, known as the “volta”. Thanks to the vision of oenologist Christian Bellei, the winery enhances local identity by interpreting its grapes in a radiant white version, characterised by an elegant aromatic freshness.

How it is produced

This sparkling wine is crafted according to the strict principles of the Traditional Method, which involves secondary fermentation in the bottle. After vinification, the wine matures in the cellar for a period of at least 36 months on the lees. This ageing enriches the olfactory complexity and imparts a pleasant creaminess to the palate, creating a perfect harmony between aromas and flavours. The result is a glass of great depth, supported by a well-balanced structure that enhances the fruit expression and leads to a harmonious and refined finish.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 2010 on the banks of the Naviglio di Bomporto, Cantina della Volta continues a vocation that began back in 1920. The name celebrates the historic river “turnaround” of boats that took place at the ancient eighteenth-century landing stage. Under the guidance of oenologist Christian Bellei, a fourth-generation member of the family, the estate cultivates eight hectares in Emilia-Romagna. Inspired by Champagne techniques, the estate adopts the Traditional Method to produce one hundred and thirty thousand bottles a year, a magnificent expression of a skilful family tradition.

Cantina della Volta is the result of one hundred years of experience of the Bellei family, winemakers from Bomporto di Modena since 1920, of which the oenologist Christian is from the fourth generation. Despite the winery being in the heart of Lambrusco di Sorbara territory, Christian and his father Giuseppe have always nurtured a great passion for sparkling wines of the finest quality. After making numerous visits to Epernay, the capital of Champagne, to study the winemaking processes with the Traditional Method, they then applied it to the grapes in their own winery in Bomporto. This great passion for the Traditional Method led Christian Bellei to found the Cantina della Volta in 2010.

The company is based in the original building of the Cantina Bellei, built by Christian’s great-grandfather on the banks of the Naviglio di Bomporto canal, near the 18th-century dock, where boats would perform la volta (‘the turnaround’) before setting sail once more to return back to the city of Modena. It is to this place, steeped in meaning and history, that we owe the symbol of the riverboat and the company name of the Cantina della Volta.
