Description
What kind of wine it is
Somereto di Andriano is a dry white wine that fully expresses the identity of Alto Adige. Made from Chardonnay grapes, it displays a clear straw-yellow colour. On the nose, it offers an intense fruity profile, characterised by notes of apple, ripe banana and tropical hints. On the palate, the Chardonnay reveals a harmonious and juicy structure, enriched by nuances of grapefruit and a slight buttery note. The pleasant Alpine freshness supports the sip, ensuring a long and balanced finish, perfect with Mediterranean starters, shellfish and fish dishes.
Where it comes from
The vineyards stretch across east-facing slopes near Andriano, at an altitude between 260 and 380 metres. The Mediterranean climate ensures excellent sunlight, while the constant valley breezes keep the grapes healthy and preserve their natural acidity. The character of this white is defined by the distinctive reddish and clay soils, rich in calcareous clay, which rest on layers of white dolomitic stone. This specific soil matrix gives the wine a solid structure and a distinct freshness.
How it is produced
To enhance the qualities of the grape variety, the bunches are harvested slightly early. The winemaking process aims for maximum aromatic purity, with fermentation at a controlled temperature in steel tanks. Afterwards, the wine undergoes a period of ageing on fine lees for six months, always in steel containers. The absence of wood ageing allows the varietal character focused on fruit and the lively fresh component to remain intact. The result is a white wine with an elegant and refined profile.
History and Curiosities
The Chardonnay Somereto originates on the slopes of Andriano, in an area caressed by a Mediterranean climate. The vines sink their roots into clay soils, rich in limestone rock and white dolomite. After fermentation in steel and six months of ageing on fine lees, this white wine reveals an intense bouquet with notes of tropical fruit, banana and ripe apple. On the palate, its unmistakable Alpine freshness blends with a compact and enveloping structure, offering a long, dry and harmonious finish.

Today the strengths of the two wine estates are combined and yet clearly distinct from each other. With its outstanding sites, Cantina Andriano stands for constancy, underpinned by the historic achievement of the Andriano winegrowers for wines like Lagrein, which was one of the first to be aged in barriques here.
On the basis of a consistent commitment to quality and a strong focus on terroir, which had already been a successful recipe in Terlano, Cantina Andriano continues to develop step by step. The winery now looks to the future from a position of strength and can be proud of its identity and standard of quality. They have their roots in unique limestone-rich soils, a climate that is quite different from that of Terlano, and grape varieties ideally suited to these parameters.
That forms the foundation for the distinctive Andriano taste and identity. Read more
