Description
What kind of wine it is
Piwi Vicus is a still white wine from Cantina 837, produced in Friuli-Venezia Giulia from Solaris grapes. In the glass, it displays a bright golden yellow hue, enhanced by warm amber reflections. The aromatic profile is fresh and intense, with fragrant notes of Golden apple, acacia flowers and bergamot harmoniously intertwined with hints of cinnamon and white peach. On the palate, it reveals a lively mineral savouriness and an immediate freshness, perfectly balancing a full and enveloping body. The sip is enriched by delicate hints of almond and custard, finishing with a long and pleasantly persistent aftertaste.
Where it comes from
This label originates in the mountains of Carnia, in a context of heroic viticulture situated eight hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The vineyards, trained as modified bush vines, sink their roots into a loamy clay soil with a fine texture, a fundamental element in imparting freshness and character to the glass. The production reflects a concrete commitment to the protection of alpine biodiversity, following the rhythms of nature. Cantina 837 cultivates disease-resistant vines, ensuring a highly sustainable agricultural approach to best enhance the authentic mountain terroir.
How it is produced
The grapes are carefully harvested in October. The cellar work culminates in maturation in American oak barrels for seven months, a period in wood that precisely defines the structure, delicate spicy notes and flavour balance. Ideally served between ten and twelve degrees, this mountain white pairs beautifully with pâté, foie gras and mature or fresh cheeses. Its savoury and aromatic texture splendidly enhances fish-based dishes and enriches the most complex preparations based on white meats and game.
History and Curiosities
Born among the mountains of Carnia at an altitude of 850 metres, the Piwi Vicus 2023 from Cantina 837 is the emblem of heroic high-altitude viticulture. Made from 100% Solaris grapes, this wine follows the principles of PIWI varieties, fungus-resistant vines that help preserve Alpine biodiversity. The very name pays homage to the ancient root of the word “home”, celebrating the founders’ deep connection with their mountainous homeland. The seven-month ageing in American oak gives it an authentic character.

The mountains of Carnia, caskets of biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes, are suffering from a silent exodus. Villages empty, uncultivated fields multiply, traditions are lost. But we have a hope that is also a certainty: environmentally friendly agriculture, a valuable ally in reversing the trend and sowing the seeds of a flourishing future.
In uncharted territory, innovation becomes the key to achieving the impossible. PIWI, A COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY. For us, sustainability is not just a word, but a concrete commitment that is reflected in every choice, from the vineyard to the bottle. PIWI vines, which are resistant to the mountain climate and fungal diseases, allow us to grow grapes in a natural way, drastically reducing or completely eliminating the use of pesticides and fungicides.
