Description
What kind of wine it is
Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Il Quercione by San Felice is a still red wine, a profound expression of the Tuscan region, made from Sangiovese grapes. It appears an intense ruby colour, a prelude to a penetrating bouquet with notes of ripe fruit, spices, cocoa and leather. The palate is full and austere, supported by sweet and juicy tannins that provide structure while maintaining excellent overall pleasantness. Thanks to its significant concentration, it pairs ideally with slow-cooked dishes, enhancing red meats, game, flavourful grilled dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Il Quercione vineyard, located within the Campogiovanni estate in Montalcino. The vines grow at around four hundred metres above sea level, trained using the spurred cordon method to ensure excellent quality. The medium-textured soil, characterised by a strong clay component with sandstone and limestone marl bases, defines the authentic Montalcino terroir. This geological richness gives the wine a solid structure and deep complexity, fundamental bases for an important structure and extraordinary ageing potential.
How it is produced
Following a rigorous selection of the grape bunches, maceration on the skins lasts for twenty-five days, optimising polyphenol extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine begins its maturation in French oak barrels for twenty-four months, enriching its aromatic profile. The process concludes with bottle ageing for thirty-six months. This prolonged evolution harmonises the tannic structure and consolidates the ageing potential, defining the austere and refined character that distinguishes this fine production.
History and Curiosities
Produced exclusively in the fresh and celebrated 2019 vintage, this Brunello di Montalcino Riserva originates from the Campogiovanni estate of San Felice. The oenologist Leonardo Bellaccini selects Sangiovese Grosso grapes from the exclusive Il Quercione vineyard, resulting in a limited production of only 5,000 bottles. Thanks to a focus on sustainability and lengthy ageing, the wine displays an exceptional longevity of over twenty years, confirmed by the excellent scores from international critics such as James Suckling and Wine Spectator.
