Description
What kind of wine it is
Bolgheri Ruit Hora by Caccia al Piano is a still red wine of great structure, created from a meticulous blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah grapes. It boasts a complex aromatic profile, distinguished by notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and cherry, enhanced by hints of tobacco, oriental spices and undergrowth. On the palate, it is dry, full and velvety, supported by a sweet and well-integrated tannic structure. The sip evolves with balance, complemented by a lively freshness that leads to a long and persistent finish, characterised by pleasant fruity returns.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in Castagneto Carducci, at the heart of the renowned Bolgheri appellation in Tuscany. The vineyards thrive in an excellent Tuscan terroir, capable of imparting a decisive and distinctive character to the grapes. Caccia al Piano manages its rows with utmost care, carrying out separate harvesting and processing for each variety, with the greatest respect for the raw material. The soul of this land is expressed in the glass through a warm and enveloping flavour, endowed with remarkable longevity and destined for harmonious evolution over time.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a manual harvest carried out in several stages during September, keeping the varieties separate. After destemming, maceration and fermentation take place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures for about two weeks. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine matures for eighteen months in barrels, refining its structure and acquiring elegant spicy notes. After blending, it undergoes a further six months of bottle ageing, making it ideal for pairing with grilled meats and mature cheeses, preferably after an hour of decanting.
History and Curiosities

This idea, which culminated with purchasing the Caccia al Piano estate in 2003, came across after visiting the San Biagio vineyard. This marvellous area enjoys a privileged position in the Bolgheri area and a fascinating view of the sea.
Since the beginning, Franco Ziliani's work was driven by the desire to patiently understand the terroir of Bolgheri, respecting what has already been done by the great protagonists who have made the wine of these lands famous. Today, the company is carried on by his children Cristina, Arturo and Paolo.
The Caccia al Piano estate is located in Castagneto Carducci in the town of Bolgheri and was created from the renovation of an ancient hunting estate owned by the noble Della Gherardesca family, dating back to 1868. Thanks to careful redevelopment work in full respect of the surrounding land, the farmhouse has been enlarged and transformed into the current headquarters of the winery. Read more
