Description
What kind of wine it is
Montebruna is a still red wine that embodies the essence of the Barbera grape variety, produced by Braida. This wine displays a full profile, able to combine a well-integrated freshness with a mature tannic structure. The glass reveals clear aromas of cherry and small red fruits, enriched by hints of violet, vanilla and white pepper. On the palate, it is deep, with remarkable flavour persistence that culminates in a typical almondy finish. A fragrant expression that best enhances the fruity character of the variety.
Where it comes from
This Barbera d’Asti originates in Piedmont, in the heart of Monferrato Astigiano, near Rocchetta Tanaro. The vineyards come from the union of several historic plots, brought together by Braida in a property of great oenological value. The roots of the Barbera grape grow in sandy and clay soils, an ideal combination to enhance the expressiveness of the grapes and maintain a balanced structural texture. The result is a sip that faithfully reflects the winegrowing identity of the terroir.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a rigorous manual harvest of the Barbera grapes. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at a controlled temperature for about two weeks, preserving the aromatic integrity. This is followed by maturation in large oak barrels for one year. This stage is carefully managed to impart delicate toasted notes without overpowering the varietal fragrance. The final result is a clear wine, characterised by exceptional harmony and smoothness.
History and Curiosities
Seven years and 35 notarial deeds enabled the historic Braida winery to bring together the precious plots of Montebruna, in Monferrato. To celebrate this pure Barbera, artists and poets have sung the praises of “a land that speaks”. After a year spent in oak barrels, the glass reveals a harmonious and powerful profile: the intense notes of ripe cherry and red fruits evolve into a silky sip, culminating in an elegant and intoxicating almond finish.

"Braida" was the nickname that Giacomo’s father, Giuseppe Bologna, a professional carter, had earned himself by playing handball, because of his resemblance to the champion of this sport. Along with his father’s nickname Giacomo also inherited his love of the sport and of horses, and a large Barbera vineyard on the Rocchetta hills. Read more
