Description
What kind of wine it is
Bottega Vinai Lagrein is a red wine from Trentino, an authentic expression of the Lagrein grape variety. To the eye, it displays a very intense ruby colour, introducing a clear bouquet of raspberry, redcurrant and blackberry, enhanced by subtle hints of vanilla. On the palate, it reveals a lively structure, supported by excellent harmony between soft tannins and balanced freshness. Ideal for accompanying rich meat-based first courses or chicken cacciatore, it brings out its aromatic nuances if allowed to breathe and served in a large tulip-shaped glass.
Where it comes from
The vines thrive on the foothill slopes of the Adige Valley and Vallagarina. In the first area, the vineyards are situated on glacial and morainic terraces characterised by brown, gravelly and well-drained soils. Moving towards Vallagarina, the soil becomes calcareous, rich in pebbles and clay. The development of the plants benefits from a sub-continental climate, with hot summers and marked temperature variations between day and night. This microclimate, tempered by the constant influence of the Ora del Garda, ensures slow ripening and optimal accumulation of aromatic substances in the grapes.
How it is produced
Vinification takes place in red within small stainless steel tanks. The controlled temperature encourages a long maceration on the skins, essential for extracting colour and body. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to oak barrels to complete malolactic fermentation. The maturation in wood phase then continues in small barrels, thus refining the organoleptic profile. This production process results in a wine with well-defined tannins and a pronounced final persistence.
History and Curiosities
Cultivated since the 16th century by the Benedictine Fathers, the native Lagrein is an oenological gem of the renowned Bottega Vinai line by Cavit. Its historic roots in Trentino suggest that the very name derives from the picturesque Vallagarina. This noble grape variety, whose autumn leaves take on intense reddish-brown hues, ensures excellent concentration thanks to strict yields of 50 hectolitres per hectare. Its prized clusters give rise to a superb wine, celebrated worldwide with prestigious gold medals and coveted international oenological trophies.

The image that best represents Cavit, a large co-operative composed of a large number of small wineries, is that of the vine that produces healthy grapes only if the roots and the other parts of the plant all perform their roles properly.
Created in 1950 to meet the needs of the winegrowers in the area to offer the very best quality and market their wines in a modern way, today Cavit represents over 4,500 winegrowers who are members of 11 cellars and 65% of the wine production in Trentino (around 5,700 ha). Cavit harvests, examines and selects its raw materials from the best produce of the cooperative member cellars, which undergoes strict controls at every stage: from refining to bottling.
Cavit today is one of the major companies in the wine business, operating successfully at national and international level. The headquarters in Ravina, where the production and logistics facilities are also located, house the Wine Cellar, Sparkling Wine Cellar and Wine Shop.
