Description

What kind of wine it is

The Sauvignon Blanc Turranio from Bosco del Merlo is a still white wine from Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with the Friuli designation, matured in steel, featuring a straw yellow colour enriched with delicate greenish highlights. Its sensory profile expresses a well-defined varietal identity, with aromas of melon and peach intertwined with the typical note of pepper leaf. On the palate, it is dry, supported by a pronounced savouriness and remarkable aromatic persistence. The absence of animal derivatives during production makes it an ideal vegan wine to accompany dishes based on herbs, shellfish, and goat's cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the lands of Friuli, in the Lison Pramaggiore area, a terroir that profoundly influences its aromatic profile and taste balance. Bosco del Merlo enhances the qualities of these areas, delivering an authentic territorial imprint. The name is a historical tribute to Turranio of Concordia Sagittaria, a monk from the fourth century, highlighting the deep connection with its area of origin. The influence of the microclimate results in a mineral character and an elegant structure.

How it is produced

Production begins with a night-time harvest divided into three distinct stages to balance the freshness and riper notes of the Sauvignon Blanc. The individual batches undergo a slow fermentation at low temperatures in steel tanks, a technique essential for preserving the aromatic integrity. The process concludes with ageing on fine lees for a period ranging from three to five months, a step that enriches the flavour texture and body of the wine without overshadowing the pure identity of the grape variety.

History and Curiosities

The name pays tribute to the illustrious fourth-century monk and historian, Turranio of Concordia Sagittaria. The result of the dedication of the Paladin brothers at the Bosco del Merlo winery, Sauvignon Blanc Turranio DOC Friuli is a true excellence, awarded 96 points by Luca Maroni. Its superior quality is confirmed by the Special Trophy at the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon and numerous Gold Medals. Thanks to its extraordinary elegance, this wine graces the most exclusive wine lists of prestigious hotels and restaurants, from Venice to Hong Kong.

The name "Bosco del Merlo" is derived from local topographical maps which refer to the oak forests that once covered the area. The vineyards of Bosco del Merlo are situated between the ancient Roman consular roads of Via Annia and Via Postumia, dating back to the early centuries after Christ.

The Bosco del Merlo estate winery started up in 1977 in Annone Veneto, founded by siblings Carlo, Lucia and Roberto Paladin. Thanks to a profitable collaboration with the Istituto Sperimentale per la Viticoltura di Conegliano, a careful and modern zoning technique was immediately implemented in order to get the best out of the terroir, working the vineyard piece by piece. In the nineties, in the small town of Lison di Portogruaro, the cradle of viticulture in this wine-making region, a further 50 hectares of land was acquired, which therefore doubled capacity, increasing it to around 100 hectares in total.

Over the course of the years Bosco del Merlo has benefited from the advice of famous oenologists and experts from the Faculties of Oenology and Agriculture in Padua and Milan, such as Franco Bernabei and Leonardo Valenti, in its quest to find the most forward-thinking solutions for achieving optimal quality with the lowest environmental impact.
