Description

What kind of wine it is

Boschendal Vin d’Or Noble Late Harvest is a sweet white wine from late harvest, an authentic expression of South Africa. This blend is created from the union of Riesling and Viognier grapes, enriched by the influence of Botrytis, the noble rot that naturally concentrates the sugars in the berries. In the glass, it reveals a golden colour and a balanced sip, with intense notes of mandarin, tropical fruit and honeysuckle that evolve into a fresh, citrusy finish. Served between 10 and 12°C, it pairs perfectly with desserts and blue cheeses, and is suitable for those following a vegan diet.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the Western Cape, in selected terroirs to ensure concentrated fruit and lively natural acidity. The Riesling comes from Durbanville, while the Viognier grows in the Elgin Valley. The plots are characterised by low-yield vineyards and the absence of artificial irrigation. The prolonged hang time on the vine allows the berries to dehydrate naturally, creating the ideal conditions for the development of Botrytis. This geographical origin gives the blend a profound harmony between intense natural sweetness and invigorating freshness.

How it is produced

The production process begins with the manual harvesting of the dehydrated bunches. In the winery, whole bunch pressing is carried out, followed by targeted skin maceration for several days. Periodic stirring ensures maximum extraction of aromas even from the driest berries. After the must is settled, fermentation takes place in stainless steel, proceeding slowly until it stops spontaneously to preserve the residual sugars. The process is completed with ageing in small oak barrels, which gives the wine great balance.

History and Curiosities

A pure expression of the Boschendal estate, Vin d’Or Noble Late Harvest enriches the prestigious Heritage and Reserve Collection lines. It is produced from unirrigated vines, allowing the grapes to wither directly on the vines to encourage the development of Noble Rot, the natural mould that concentrates aromas and sugars into an enveloping nectar. Awarded 94 points by Tim Atkin, it is crafted by winemakers Michael Langenhoven and JC Bekker. Distinguished by the sustainability mark and certified GMO-free, it offers a memorable tasting experience.
