Description

What kind of wine it is

Blain-Gagnard Pommard is a still red wine that clearly expresses the identity of its region. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, it displays a bright and delicate ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals small red fruits such as currants and raspberries, interwoven with hints of fresh roses, oriental spices and liquorice on a pleasant balsamic background. On the palate, it stands out for its smoothness and elegant freshness, with a silky texture and dense, fine tannins that lead the sip towards a long, fruity finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from Pommard, a renowned appellation located in Burgundy. The vineyards near the village of Volnay soften the aromatic profile with floral and herbal notes, tempering the usually austere character of the local reds. Domaine Blain-Gagnard was founded in 1980 from the union of Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine, custodians of a deep winemaking heritage. The family estate showcases noble grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, true interpreters of a great cross-border terroir.

How it is produced

The vinification, carried out with great care, enhances the virtues of the land, creating a gustatory balance appreciated by international critics. To fully enjoy its balsamic and floral aromas, it is recommended to decant for about an hour and serve between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius. This red also boasts excellent ageing potential, lending itself to cellar evolution that can enrich its elegant structure over a period of ten to fifteen years.

Domaine Blain-Gagnard was formed in 1980 when Jean-Marc Blain (a Sancerrois) married Claudine Gagnard, youngest daughter of Jacques and Marie-Josèphe Gagnard of Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange. The couple runs this venerable domaine with the help of their son Marc-Antonin. Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard met while they were both studying oenology at Dijon. The estate's vineyards come mainly from grandparents and other relatives of Claudine, along with a few purchases. The vines are planted in Chardonnay (55%) and the rest in Pinot Noir, with a small parcel of Passetoutgrain. Read more
