Description
What kind of wine it is
Bibbiano Chianti Classico Riserva is an organic red wine that expresses the pure character of Sangiovese in the heart of Chianti Classico. It presents a dry, harmonious, and medium-bodied profile. On the nose, the bouquet is deep, dominated by notes of plum, cherry, wild berries, and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it shows a lovely structure, supported by sweet and silky tannins that fade into a long, toasted finish. This savoury and balanced profile makes it perfect for enhancing robust dishes such as red meats, roasts, game, and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red is produced in Castellina in Chianti from the vineyards of Bibbiano, a family-run estate dedicated to organic and sustainable agriculture. The vines stretch towards the Val d’Elsa, between 270 and 310 metres above sea level, with optimal exposures. The terroir is characterised by calcareous-clay soils rich in Pliocene deposits and fragments of alberese. This specific geological matrix, combined with low yields per hectare, gives the grapes excellent concentration. These factors translate in the glass into a savoury flavour profile and a defined structure, offering a faithful expression of the Tuscan landscape.
How it is produced
Production begins at the end of September with the harvest of Sangiovese grapes. Vinification involves a twenty-three day maceration in stainless steel tanks and concrete vats. The wine then undergoes a carefully managed eighteen-month maturation, divided between concrete and French oak barrels. This precise technical approach softens the tannic component and enriches the profile with elegant toasted notes. The overall maturation extends to thirty-six months, completed by a final resting period, essential for achieving perfect harmony in the sip.
History and Curiosities
Produced in Castellina in Chianti, this organic red wine is born at the Tenuta di Bibbiano, managed by Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi and owned by the same family for over 150 years. Among vineyards surrounded by three thousand olive trees, the Chianti Classico Riserva comes to life thanks to the expert touch of oenologist Maurizio Castelli. The 2022 vintage embodies the quintessence of Tuscan elegance, awarded 94 points by James Suckling and 92 by Robert Parker: an oenological masterpiece that fully expresses the winemaking vocation of the region.

On the edge of this immense natural and human heritage, since 1865 our family has continued the cultivation of vineyards and olive trees with passion, making it alive, modern and up-to-date thanks to an entrepreneurial tradition that has been handed down from father to son, and which has now reached the fifth generation, in the persons of Tommaso and Federico Marrocchesi Marzi.
Surrounded by vast olive groves of more than three thousand plants, the vineyards of Bibbiano extend over a total area of about 30 hectares between 270 and 310 metres above sea level, set on hill slopes that enjoy an enviable exposure and an excellent microclimate, characterised by clay deposits of the Pliocene age that are rich in limestone.
Our aim is to produce high quality wines, by virtue of a firm choice to exalt the genius loci of Bibbiano, namely the soul of the distinctive geography and the human heritage of the place, generating balanced, elegant wines with distinctive, and sometimes even powerful, personalities with very clear textures.
