Description

What kind of wine is it

The Champagne Grand Cru Cramant & Avize Extra Brut by Bereche is a highly elegant Traditional Method Blanc de Blancs. Made entirely from Chardonnay grapes, it reveals itself in the glass with a pale straw yellow hue. The bouquet offers delicate notes of hawthorn, supported by a pronounced mineral structure. On the palate, it stands out for its pure and structured sip, enhanced by a distinctive chalky finish. Ideally served chilled, it pairs beautifully with shellfish, sushi, and soft cheeses.

Where does it come from

This wine originates in France, in the Grand Cru villages of Cramant and Avize, within the Champagne region. The vineyards are situated at around one hundred and ninety metres above sea level, on soils composed of clay-limestone with deep chalk outcrops. This geological matrix imparts a distinctive mineral character to the sparkling wine. Bereche manages the vineyards according to strict High Environmental Quality standards, practising ploughing and natural grassing to avoid the use of chemical herbicides.

How is it produced

Vinification follows the principles of the Traditional Method, beginning with a slow fermentation of the must in oak barrels. The Champagne then undergoes ageing on the lees for fifty-four months in the cellar, which is essential for defining its aromatic precision. This meticulous process results in a refined limited production, characterised by a low dosage that fully enhances its marked freshness and persistence.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1847, Maison Bérèche has passed down a deep devotion to its land through generations. This excellent expression of pure Chardonnay, born in the prestigious terroirs of Cramant and Avize, represents a true rarity from the 2020 vintage, produced in only 2,700 bottles. The slow fermentation in barrique and the meticulous 54-month maturation on the lees give this vintage an enchanting complexity. Awarded 93 points by Vinous, this sought-after Extra Brut embodies eco-sustainable elegance.

The 5th generation has been in place since 2004. The last 10 years have been dedicated to several key factors: the transmission of expertise, the quality of work and the continuity of the style of the House. We respect our soil and our vineyards to the highest point. We want to hand them down intact for future generations. We pay attention to every detail of our work in order to excel in precision, tradition and respect for life to serve our wines.

Every action has been adequately thought out. Of course our land is plowed and we also use weed control to limit disease. This vegetation cover avoids herbicides, insecticides and anti-rots. Everything begins with the soil. The fertilization is organic. We feed wildlife which in turn feeds flora and thus the soil is working. As a result the House Bérêche has one of the lowest treatment frequency index in the Champagne region. It is also among the first to be certified High Environmental Quality (level 3).
