Description

What kind of wine it is

Vermentino di Sardegna Unda by Bentu Luna is a still white wine with Denomination of Controlled Origin from Sardinia, made from Vermentino grapes, authentically expressing the character of its homeland. Visually, it displays a bright straw yellow hue, introducing an aromatic bouquet where fruity notes intertwine with distinctive herbaceous hints typical of the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it reveals a fresh, savoury and harmonious structure, with a pleasantly persistent finish. The continuity between nose and palate makes it an ideal companion for fish dishes and cheese selections.

Where it comes from

This Vermentino originates in the heart of the ancient Giudicato of Arborea, within the territory of Vermentino di Sardegna. Among the hills of Barigadu and Mandrolisei, the Bentu Luna vineyards are set in an unspoilt rural landscape. The vines sink their roots into sandy soils of decomposed granite, surrounded by dense woods. This particular geological matrix gives the wine a marked minerality and a defined territorial identity, ensuring a pure expression deeply connected to the island’s ecosystem.

How it is produced

Bentu Luna’s approach respects the rhythms of nature, adopting careful agricultural practices such as working the rows with oxen. In the cellar, vinification aims to preserve the integrity of the fruit, enhancing the natural qualities of Vermentino under the oenological guidance of Giuseppe Caviola. This meticulous care results in a clean and linear profile. The wine also boasts an ageing potential estimated between three and five years, maintaining excellent taste balance over time.

History and Curiosities

Born in 2019 from a project by the Moratti family to enhance the authentic Sardinian rural tradition, Unda by Bentu Luna comes to life in the heart of the ancient Giudicato of Arborea. Among the hills of Barigadu and Mandrolisei, the pure Vermentino vines sink their roots into sandy soils of weathered granite, unique in their kind. In full respect of the ecosystem, these small plots are cultivated with the help of oxen. Under the oenological guidance of Giuseppe Caviola, the winery offers an excellent glass, awarded 89/100 by James Suckling.

In the heart of the ancient Giudicato di Arborea, among the hills of Barigadu and Mandrolisei, small vineyards of no more than one hectare each are preserved, testimony to the Sardinian rural soul that, in a timeless symbiotic relationship, respects woodland and granite landscapes that are among the wildest on the island. The sandy, granite decaying soils are still worked with oxen and are home to typical varieties such as bovale, cannonau and other indigenous Sardinian varieties.

The Bentu Luna winery, a new project of the Moratti family, is located in Neoneli, a village of pre-Nuragic origin modelled on the typical red trachyte, rich in ancestral memories such as the tenores choirs and the carnival animated by the soc Corriolos masks and bonfires in the square. A strategic choice, therefore, aimed at highlighting unexplored and authentic parts of the rural tradition.
