Description
What kind of wine it is
Sardegna Rosso Mari di Bentu Luna is a still red wine that embodies the essence of the Mandrolisai region. It is created from a harmonious blend of Bovale, Cannonau and Monica grapes. The bouquet reveals clear spicy notes that precede a structured and pleasantly smooth sip. On the palate, it stands out for its remarkable softness, enhanced by enveloping aromas of red fruit. To best appreciate it, it is recommended to decant for about an hour and serve at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees.
Where it comes from
This red originates in Sardinia, specifically in Neoneli, among the hills of Barigadu and Mandrolisai, in the heart of the ancient Giudicato di Arborea. The vines grow on small plots cultivated as bush vines, each of which does not exceed one hectare in size. The sandy and decomposed granite soils give the wine a distinctive character, enhancing the purity of the fruit. Bentu Luna promotes authentic viticulture, keeping local rural practices alive, such as ploughing the land still with the help of oxen.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested at the beginning of October, followed by gentle destemming. Fermentation is carried out by indigenous yeasts through a spontaneous pied de cuve in cement vats, preserving the aromatic integrity of the grape varieties. The wine is then aged for eight months in second-use oak barrels, a process that enriches its structure and spicy complexity without overpowering the fruit. The result is an expressive clarity of great elegance, which faithfully reflects the winery's production philosophy.
History and Curiosities
Rosso Mari originates in Neoneli, at the heart of the ancient Giudicato of Arborea, where the Moratti family cultivates small vineyards on sandy and granitic soils, tended according to the skilled Sardinian rural tradition with the help of oxen. This fine Mandrolisai DOC comes to life through a delicate spontaneous fermentation in concrete vats, then matures for eight months in second-use oak barrels. The 2021 vintage, highly acclaimed by critics, offers an enveloping sip that expresses the authentic elegance of the region.

The Bentu Luna winery, a new project of the Moratti family, is located in Neoneli, a village of pre-Nuragic origin modelled on the typical red trachyte, rich in ancestral memories such as the tenores choirs and the carnival animated by the soc Corriolos masks and bonfires in the square. A strategic choice, therefore, aimed at highlighting unexplored and authentic parts of the rural tradition. Read more
