Description
What kind of wine it is
Pietra Marina is a still white wine from Benanti that embodies the essence of Etna Bianco Superiore. Made from Carricante grapes, it displays a straw yellow colour with vivid green highlights. The bouquet is intense, with notes of apple and orange blossom. On the palate, it offers a dry and harmonious sip, supported by an acidity that prolongs its persistence with a finish of anise and almond. This profile gives the wine a clear gastronomic vocation and excellent longevity.
Where it comes from
It originates in Sicily, from vineyards located in the municipality of Viagrande. The old bush-trained vines, some of which are ungrafted, grow at around 950 metres above sea level. The mountain temperature variations favour slow ripening and precise aromatic definition. The sandy and volcanic soils, rich in minerals, give the wine a profound mineral tension. Organic and sustainable cultivation ensures a rigorous balance in respect of the ecosystem.
How it is produced
The Carricante harvest takes place late, towards the end of October. In the winery, a gentle pressing of the whole bunch is carried out to extract the purest must. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature to preserve the freshness of the aromas. This is followed by a prolonged maturation in tank of at least one year and a bottle ageing of twelve months. This waiting period allows for a taut, clean and extremely elegant sip.
History and Curiosities
Born from the passion of the Benanti family since 1988, Pietra Marina encapsulates the most authentic soul of the volcano. This exceptional white wine originates from eighty-year-old bush-trained vines cultivated at 950 metres above sea level on volcanic sands rich in minerals. The Carricante grapes, harvested late under organic and sustainable practices, give the wine extraordinary longevity. The long ageing process enhances this wine, which has been awarded 5 Bibenda bunches and 3 Veronelli gold stars, and is capable of evolving in the bottle for over 10 years.
