Description
What type of wine it is
Convento Santissima Annunciata Bellavista is a still white wine with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status, representing the essence of the Curtefranca territory in Lombardy. Obtained from Chardonnay grapes fermented and aged in small oak barrels, it is distinguished by a bright straw-yellow colour enriched by vivid greenish highlights. The aromatic bouquet is complex, with hints of ripe fruit, candied citrus, and pineapple, accompanied by elegant nuances of honey and vanilla. On the palate, the Chardonnay expresses a vibrant character, an enveloping structure with buttery notes, and a savoury mineral freshness with a persistent bergamot finish, proving perfect when paired with fish dishes and cheeses.
Where it comes from
This white wine originates from Monte Orfano, in Erbusco, where a historic south-facing vineyard surrounds the ancient Convent of the Santissima Annunciata. The property extends through ancient oaks and olive trees, on land characterised by two complementary soils. In the higher sections, sandy-silty soils rich in carbonates prevail, while further down, the soils become deeper and silty-clay. This particular geological combination gives the grapes an unmistakable territorial identity, defining the natural gustatory tension that distinguishes the wine.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous hand-harvesting of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in small oak barrels, which promote a harmonious and balanced evolution. The wine rests in the barrels for twelve months, a fundamental period for integrating the vanilla notes and defining the structure of the body. This is followed by one year of bottle ageing, essential for reaching the full aromatic complexity and elegance that characterise it. To best appreciate every nuance, adequate oxygenation is recommended before serving.
History and curiosities
Founded in 1449 on Monte Orfano, the Convent of the Santissima Annunciata boasts a centuries-old winemaking tradition. On this picturesque estate, Bellavista cultivates a historic south-facing vineyard where, among olive and oak trees, an ancient fig tree marks the boundary between two complementary soils, giving this pure Chardonnay an unmistakable identity. Created in 1991 to pay homage to the Servite friars, the elegant Curtefranca DOC Bianco intertwines the vocation of a unique terroir with the most refined oenological expertise.
