Description

What kind of wine it is

Bel Colle Barbaresco Gallina is an organic red wine that embodies the essence of the Piedmont region. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, it stands out for its bright ruby colour enriched with elegant garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet where plums, cherries and small red fruits intertwine with spices and floral nuances. On the palate, it is dry and structured, supported by a velvety texture and well-defined tannins. Freshness and mineral notes lead to a persistent finish, making it ideal to pair with game, mushrooms and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This Barbaresco originates from the prestigious Gallina vineyard in Neive, an area of extraordinary winemaking vocation. The hilly terrain, characterised by marl soil with fine sand and limestone, is crucial for the wine's aromatic finesse. Production is based on old vines that are over forty years old, with some historic rows approaching half a century in age. Such longevity ensures a superior expressive concentration, offering bunches capable of faithfully expressing the local identity.

How it is produced

Bel Colle's production philosophy aims to enhance the integrity of the raw material. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, activated by indigenous yeasts. A slow post-fermentation maceration allows for the extraction of structure and colour, with racking taking place after about three weeks. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine matures for twenty-four months in large oak barrels, finishing its journey with six months of final ageing.

History and Curiosities

The Barbaresco DOCG Gallina 2021 from Bel Colle is a Piedmontese excellence originating from the historic Gallina cru in Neive, where the marl soils rich in fine sand impart an unparalleled aromatic elegance. The result of sustainable organic farming, this pure Nebbiolo comes from fifty-year-old vines, expertly vinified with indigenous yeasts according to a strict artisanal philosophy. A masterpiece of structure and finesse, its international prestige is confirmed by the Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso, 92 points from James Suckling, and 4 Viti AIS.

We are in Verduno, on the hills of Barolo, a natural treasure nested between Alba and La Morra, a luminous amphitheatre where the King of wines "Barolo" finds some of its finest and most delicate expressions. In our vineyards we grow the great traditional grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Moscato. But we also give voice to rare and precious varieties, our pearls of Langa: Nascetta, Favorita and especially Pelaverga, of which we are the largest producers in Piedmont. In the winery we use passion and experience: our philosophy of winemaking is according to artisan tradition, without forcing. Our goal is to enhance the identity of the grape variety while indulging in our wines’ natural propensity for excellence. Read more
