Description
What kind of wine is it
Vini Orsone Schioppettino by Bastianich is a still, dry red wine, an authentic expression of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Originating from the Colli Orientali del Friuli area, it appears in the glass with a ruby red colour and slight violet highlights. The aromatic profile is defined by a distinct note of black pepper, which stands out in the foreground, accompanied by delicate hints of sweet red fruits. On the palate, it offers an agile and smooth structure, delivering a silky texture supported by precisely balanced tannins and fresh acidity.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from vineyards located in Cividale del Friuli and the Ipplis area. The vines grow at an altitude between 150 and 200 metres above sea level, benefiting from a favourable southern, south-eastern and south-western exposure that ensures gradual ripening of the bunches, preserving their natural acidity. The terroir is dominated by Eocene marl soils, enriched with clay and limestone components. This complex geology is crucial in giving the wine its distinctive fine texture and supporting the vibrant spicy profile that distinguishes Schioppettino.
How is it produced
The production process begins with meticulous manual harvesting, followed by careful selection, destemming and crushing. A portion of the Schioppettino grapes undergoes a cold pre-fermentation maceration, a technique used to extract the most elegant aromatic precursors. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about eighteen days, accompanied by frequent pumping over. After malolactic fermentation, maturation lasts seven months and is divided between steel tanks and oak barrels. A targeted final ageing completes the process before release to the market.
History and Curiosities
The story of this elegant Schioppettino by Bastianich stems from the family's deep passion for great Friulian wines. Since 1997, the winery has enhanced the territory of the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC through meticulous manual harvesting. Careful cold maceration of selected grapes brings out its unmistakable and vibrant spicy aromatic expression. The silky balance and refined structure of this red come to life thanks to expert ageing, carried out between steel vats and large 30-hectolitre oak barrels.

| Wine making | Once brought to the winery, the grapes are selected on sorting tables and then destemmed, crushed, and transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. 30% of the grapes are kept at 5-6°C for pre-fermentation maceration. During alcoholic fermentation (about 18 days), the entire mass is pumped over several times a day at a temperature of around 26°C. After being separated from the skins, the wine is placed in stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation. |
