Description
What kind of wine it is
Baricci presents the Riserva NELLO, a Brunello di Montalcino of great depth with a ruby red colour and garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet featuring notes of ripe cherry, Mediterranean herbs, fine tobacco and sweet spices. On the palate, it is a structured and elegant wine, supported by a weave of dense and silky tannins that ensure balance and persistence. It is the ideal pairing for roasts, game and mature cheeses; it is recommended to decant it an hour before serving to appreciate every nuance.
Where it comes from
This red originates from the Montosoli hill, an area of the Tuscan territory renowned for its extraordinary vocation. The grapes come from a single plot, a true cru within a cru capable of faithfully expressing the nuances of Montalcino. The natural composition of the soils allows the bunches to reach ideal ripeness, defining a precise and territorial geographical identity in the glass. The very name of the wine is a tribute to Nello Baricci, in memory of his constant commitment to enhancing local winemaking.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a meticulous selection of Sangiovese grapes, choosing only the finest fruit from the estate. After fermentation, the wine undergoes a very long maturation in the bottle, a fundamental step to integrate the tannic structure and shape the aromatic profile typical of the Riserva. This production choice ensures a marked aptitude for ageing, providing the wine with the necessary elements to evolve over time and elegantly define its complex personality.
History and Curiosities
The NELLO Riserva celebrates Nello Baricci's dedication to Sangiovese and originates from the finest plot on the historic Montosoli hill. This rare excellence is produced only in extraordinary vintages such as 2019, the result of meticulous selection known as cru within the cru. Designed for very long ageing in the bottle, the wine boasts immense ageing potential, already awarded 98 points by Decanter. Stored in elegant wooden cases with a numbered label in a limited edition, this Riserva represents the estate's highest expression.

The winery was founded in 1955, when the Baricci family, originally farmers, after many years of physical and financial sacrifice, managed to purchase the small farm known as Colombaio di Montosoli. At that time, Brunello was an unknown wine, produced in very small quantities and only by a handful of passionate growers. Years passed, and in 1967 Nello Baricci, together with a few other producers, founded the "Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino," a free association of winemakers created to protect, defend, and promote their wine, whose prestige was steadily rising.
The first Brunello Baricci released on the market dates back to 1971, while the first bottle of Rosso di Montalcino was produced in 1968. Today, Nello’s grandsons, Federico and Francesco, carry on the family name—long synonymous with tradition, passion, and integrity. Their work alongside their grandfather represents a "counter‑current" professional choice for their generation, as well as the continuation of an honest and dedicated way of making wine.
The cellar is equipped with stainless‑steel tanks and Slavonian oak casks. Vinification and aging strictly follow the traditional methods that made Brunello famous worldwide. The wine ages in large casks for at least 3 years and is then refined for an additional 8 months in the bottle before being released in various European countries, as well as in the USA and Japan. The average annual production is about 13,000 bottles of Brunello and 18,000 of Rosso di Montalcino. The Baricci estate is widely recognized as a quintessential, historic Montalcino winery—one of the so‑called "small producers" who have undoubtedly contributed to the greatness of Brunello di Montalcino.
