Description
What kind of wine it is
Excelsus Banfi is a refined Tuscan red wine created from a balanced blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To the eye, it displays an intense ruby red colour enriched with garnet hues, introducing a complex and layered aromatic profile. Initial notes of wild berry jelly and wilted rose petals stand out, followed by hints of lavender, rhubarb and clear woodland nuances. The bouquet gradually evolves with hints of leather and cedar, beeswax and a spicy weave of cumin, cloves and paprika, all wrapped in a pleasant balsamic note. On the palate, it is velvety, with silky tannins accompanying a long and persistent finish, characterised by an alluring spiciness.
Where it comes from
This creation by Banfi originates in Montalcino, in the heart of Tuscany, in an area managed according to the principles of sustainability. The vineyards are trained using the spurred cordon method on silty soils, characterised by reddish clays and pebbles that ensure optimal drainage. The local climate, with mild winters and summers marked by strong temperature variations between day and night, encourages a steady and harmonious ripening of the grapes. These particular soil and climate conditions give the grapes remarkable aromatic intensity, allowing for a wine with excellent balance and a well-defined structure.
How it is produced
Vinification involves temperature-controlled fermentation between 25 and 30°C in Horizon vats, special containers that combine steel with French oak. The wine then matures for eighteen months in French oak barrels, a crucial period for integrating elegant balsamic nuances and aromatic richness. To preserve the integrity of the fruit, the wine is not filtered. The result is a full-bodied red, with a soft and enveloping texture, capable of evolving beautifully over time.
