Description
What kind of wine it is
Avignonesi 50 & 50 Capannelle is a still red blend that harmoniously combines Merlot and Sangiovese grapes. On the nose, it is intense, characterised by clear notes of violet, rose petals, cherry and red fruits, enriched with hints of bay leaf and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the tasting reveals remarkable elegance and freshness, supported by a silky smoothness and velvety tannins. The flavour profile stands out for its rich and persistent texture, dominated by ripe fruit and warm spicy notes, leading to a long, balsamic finish with every sip.
Where it comes from
This Tuscan excellence is born from the historic collaboration between the Avignonesi and Capannelle wineries. The vineyards are located in the picturesque province of Siena, stretching between the areas of Gaiole in Chianti and Valiano di Montepulciano. The vines benefit from the temperate Mediterranean climate typical of the Sienese hills, a key factor in achieving full ripeness and a well-defined aromatic profile. The soils, composed of clay, silt and limestone, give the wine a solid structure and a precise flavour that enhance its territorial expression.
How it is produced
The process begins with manual harvesting and a careful selection of the grapes, which are vinified separately to preserve their varietal identity until the final blend. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, accompanied by a 20-25 day maceration on the skins in vertical truncated-cone vats made of Slavonian oak. This method encourages precise extraction of colour and phenolic texture. Subsequently, the wine matures for 24 months in French barrels, a stage that stabilises the structural balance and ensures an enveloping and complex flavour evolution.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1988 during a convivial dinner, this iconic Toscana IGT celebrates the pursuit of excellence by two historic wineries. The blend, in equal parts, combines the vigorous Sangiovese from Capannelle with the seductive Merlot from Avignonesi, aged for 24 months in French barriques. This partnership delivers a glass of impeccable elegance, enhanced by velvety tannins. A multi-award-winning oenological masterpiece, capable of winning the Grappoli di Bibenda and topping the rankings of James Suckling and Robert Parker.
