Description
What kind of wine it is
This still red wine is an excellent interpretation of the Umbrian region. Made from Sagrantino grapes, it displays a structured style characterised by an elegant and composed tannin. The bouquet reveals intriguing complexity, with notes of blackberry jam and rose petals, followed by clear hints of nutmeg, pepper and clove, finishing with touches of pine resin, mint and cocoa. Maturation gives the palate great smoothness and a very persistent and enveloping finish.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in the heart of Umbria. The Arnaldo Caprai estate, founded in 1971, is a key reference point for the region and manages around 160 hectares of vineyards. Its location in the Montefalco Sagrantino area seals an unbreakable bond with its place of origin, aiming to enhance the unique qualities of the native grape variety. The production reflects a well-established agricultural reality, fully capable of expressing the authentic identity of the terroir.
How it is produced
The vineyards are trained using the spurred cordon system, with a density of between 6,000 and 8,000 vines per hectare and a limited yield. The maturation process involves 24 months in French oak barrels, followed by further ageing in the bottle. This careful process shapes a red wine with remarkable longevity, estimated between 10 and 15 years. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for about an hour and serve the wine at an ideal temperature between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius.

The history of the Caprai winery began in 1971 when Arnaldo Caprai, a successful textile entrepreneur, bought forty-five hectares in Montefalco with the intention of continuing the business story.
In 1988, the company's management passed into the hands of his son Marco who, with great passion, launched a project to valorise Sagrantino, an indigenous grape variety with enormous production potential. The continuous search for qualitative excellence and the strong commitment to research and development set the international success of Sagrantino di Montefalco and of the Arnaldo Caprai company, which quickly became one of the most important production realities in the world.
The constant search for process innovation and applied experimentation have guided the company towards a dynamic and modern agriculture, based on a deep technical/agronomic knowledge of the territory and the use of innovative management technologies. The improvement of environmental, economic and social sustainability becomes a constant commitment of the company, which adheres to the New Green Revolution sustainability protocol. Read more
