Description
What kind of wine it is
Inferno Fiamme Antiche is a still red wine from Lombardy that best expresses mountain Nebbiolo. Produced in the Valtellina Superiore Inferno area, it displays a garnet red colour enriched with orange highlights. On the nose, it weaves together notes of cherry and plum in alcohol with hints of alpine herbs, nutmeg and cloves. On the palate, it reveals a precise style, driven by lively freshness and ultra-fine tannins. The pronounced savouriness balances a rich, spicy finish, making it ideal for pairing with roasts and game.
Where it comes from
The grapes come exclusively from the steep, sun-drenched slopes of Poggiridenti, a region renowned for its heroic viticulture. Here, the vines sink their roots into granite rock, which stores solar heat to aid the ripening of the grapes. The mountain climate imparts freshness and a distinct identity to the wine. The terraces are accessible only via challenging paths such as the strada dell’Arboleé, a testament to the manual dedication required to successfully cultivate this harsh Alpine environment.
How it is produced
Ar.Pe.Pe works these prized grapes to enhance their authentic mountain character. After careful harvesting, the must macerates in contact with the skins for twelve days in chestnut vats, a crucial stage for extracting colour and structure. The subsequent maturation takes place in oak barrels for at least two years. This prolonged period in wood consolidates a distinct spiciness and an extremely elegant flavour profile, offering a satisfying sip that faithfully reflects the identity of its place of origin.
History and Curiosities
Produced by the Ar.Pe.Pe. family since 1860, Inferno Fiamme Antiche embodies the essence of heroic viticulture practised on the steep slopes of Poggiridenti. Here, the heat released by the granite rock encourages the perfect ripening of Nebbiolo, inspiring the very name of the wine. Accessible via the rugged Arboleé road, the vineyard yields prized grapes that macerate for twelve days in chestnut vats, before being elegantly refined in oak barrels. A multi-award-winning Valtellina masterpiece, a proud emblem of genuine tradition.
