Description
What kind of wine it is
The Torrette Superieur élevé en fût de chêne by Anselmet is a still red wine with an elegant profile. This mountain blend combines Petit Rouge, Fumin and Cornalin grapes, offering a sip characterised by freshness and smoothness. Recognised under the Valle d’Aosta Torrette Superiore denomination, it matures in French barrels using the bâtonnage technique, a process that enriches the wine’s texture and supports a bouquet where red fruits meet a pleasant smoky note.
Where it comes from
The wine originates in Villeneuve, in the picturesque setting of the Aosta Valley. The grapes come from heroic viticulture, grown on slopes between 750 and 900 metres above sea level, which favour a clear and taut flavour profile. The sandy-moraine soils contribute to a clean expression, where the fruit is well defined and the spicy component remains elegant. Furthermore, the high planting density combined with low yields ensures remarkable aromatic concentration in every bunch.
How it is produced
After a careful harvest of Petit Rouge, Fumin and Cornalin grapes, fermentation lasts for about fifteen to twenty days. The subsequent maturation benefits from bâtonnage on the lees, giving the wine a deep and enveloping texture. In the glass, it appears a bright ruby red, anticipating a complex aromatic profile where violet notes, incense and liquorice stand out. On the palate, it is frank, rounded and fresh, achieving excellent balance before finishing with an intriguing black pepper texture.
History and Curiosities
Since 1978, Maison Anselmet has been enhancing the heroic viticulture of the Aosta Valley. This Torrette Superiore DOC is produced from vineyards located between 750 and 900 metres above sea level. The slow ageing in French barriques with bâtonnage brings out the best in the Petit Rouge, Fumin and Cornalin grapes, offering a rounded and complex sip, perfectly balanced between smoothness and a fresh spicy texture.

The Anselmets have been protagonists in the rediscovery and valorisation of forgotten indigenous grape varieties such as Petit Rouge, Cornalin, Fumin, Mayolet and Muscat. But they have also been courageous disseminators of International grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Gamay and Pinot Grigio, which are cultivated and vinified according to an authentic Valdostan spirit.
Today, Anselmet cultivates around 10 hectares of vineyards; the production, totally manual in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, enhances the incredible variety and extraordinary personality of Valdostan wines, seeking to capture their changing and grandiose, elusive yet clearly territorial character.
