Description
What kind of wine it is
Merlot XV by Alois Lageder is a still vegan red wine with Alto Adige designation, produced in Trentino Alto Adige according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture, expressing the pure essence of the Merlot grape variety. In the glass, it displays an elegant and fresh density, while the aromatic profile releases pronounced notes of morello cherry, vegetal nuances and a delicate hint of chocolate. On the palate, it offers a dry sip, characterised by a soft structural texture that fades into a pleasantly bitter finish. Made with spontaneous fermentation and aged in barrels, it requires one hour of decanting and is ideal for pairing with grilled veal, lamb, game and cheeses.
Where it comes from
This expression comes to life in Alto Adige, south of Magrè, from the historic Fünfzehner vineyard with vines cultivated since 1957. The area is situated between 210 and 280 metres above sea level, benefiting from the Ora del Garda breeze, a warm wind that ensures the perfect integrity of the grapes. The character of the wine is shaped by alluvial and moraine soils, formed by deposits from the Rio Favogna and the Adige river. This clayey, sandy and rocky matrix, combined with a marked limestone component, gives the glass a solid structure, clear aromas and a lively gustatory tension.
How it is produced
Production begins at the end of September. In the cellar, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks, preserving the fragrance of the fruit. The subsequent malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel to maintain a vital aromatic freshness. The final stage involves a period of ageing in barrels, an essential step to harmonise the peppery notes and soften the drink. Through these meticulous processes, a harmonious and dry red is obtained, endowed with excellent ageing potential that allows it to mature beautifully for several years.
