Description

What kind of wine it is

Lowengang Uvaggio Storico by Alois Lageder is a still red wine, both organic and biodynamic. It is made from a blend of grapes including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot and Petit Verdot. On the nose, it displays great intensity, with clear fruity aromas of raspberry, blackberry and cherry, combined with elegant spicy and earthy notes and subtle smoky hints. On the palate, it reveals a vigorous and perfectly balanced structure, accompanied by a delicately bitter tannic texture that leads to a precise finish with every sip.

Where it comes from

The grapes are sourced from the finest plots of the Lowengang Estate in Magrè, in the Unterland area, within the renowned Vigneti delle Dolomiti denomination. The rows are situated at around two hundred and thirty metres above sea level on sandy and gravelly soils with a strong limestone component, essential for giving definition to the wine. The value of this cultivation lies in the historic century-old vines, some of which are capable of reaching up to one hundred and forty years of age. This invaluable genetic heritage is preserved through careful massal selection and a rigorous holistic agricultural approach.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with a spontaneous fermentation of the crushed grapes triggered by indigenous yeasts, using varying percentages of whole bunches combined with a phase of natural carbonic maceration. Ageing takes place in wooden barrels of various sizes, followed by a prolonged period of bottle maturation. This precise artisanal technique results in a deep and multifaceted vegan wine, already thoroughly enjoyable but with a remarkable ageing potential estimated between ten and fifteen years.

History and Curiosities

The Lowengang Uvaggio Storico 2020 is a true tribute to the tradition of Alto Adige, born from the most prized plots of the Magrè estate. This label comes to life from exceptional vines that are up to 140 years old, carefully safeguarded by the Alois Lageder winery through meticulous massal selection. This approach allows for the preservation of a precious historical DNA, enhanced by a rigorous Demeter biodynamic vision. The result is an invaluable heritage, perfect for passing on to future generations the pure essence of the Dolomites Vineyards.
