Description

What kind of wine it is

Allegrini Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a red wine with a fragrant profile, created from a meticulous blend of Corvina and Rondinella. Within the Valpolicella Classico Superiore category, this wine displays a ruby red hue with violet reflections. The bouquet offers clear notes of strawberry, cherry and red plum, intertwined with delicate hints of dried rose and subtle touches of wood. On the palate, it is dry and lively, supported by a soft, well-integrated tannin that makes it easy to drink. Its balanced flavour profile makes it an extremely versatile choice at the table, finishing with a medium-length finish with a pleasant fruity recall.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica, among the rows cultivated on the Grola hill. The Guyot-trained vines benefit from a south-east exposure and grow on soils characterised by a strong clay and limestone component, an essential element for imparting freshness to the glass. The temperature variations between day and night encourage the development of clear and complex aromas in the grapes. The Allegrini winery, based in Fumane, enhances these geographical features through careful viticultural practices, faithfully reflecting the vocation of the Veneto region.

How it is produced

The process begins with a manual harvest, usually carried out in mid-September with meticulous fruit selection. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature for about nine days, to ensure a precise extraction of colour and aromas. Afterwards, the wine matures for six months in large barrels, a period of ageing that softens its structural profile without masking the varietal nuances. This is followed by a final two-month rest in concrete vats, a crucial step to stabilise the organoleptic notes and preserve the wine's vibrant acidity.

History and Curiosities

Allegrini, a historic winery founded in Fumane in 1854, signs this exceptional Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC. Originating from the prestigious Grola hill, the 2023 vintage is the result of a rigorous manual harvest. The temperature variations in September favoured ideal ripening of the grapes, allowing the estate to brilliantly overcome the season's climatic challenges. Overseen by oenologists Paolo Mascanzoni and Lorenzo Fortini, this sustainable label expresses absolute elegance, awarded 91 points by James Suckling.

Allegrini is one of the most important and authoritative wineries in Italy. Known for its production of Valpolicella Classica, the Allegrini winery boasts one hundred hectares of vineyards located on the hills of Fumane, Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro in Cariano.

Belonging to the family of the same name since the 16th century, the Allegrini winery is located in the Valpolicella Classica area: in particular, it is situated where vines such as corvina, molinara and rondinella give life to what are considered some of the best red wines of the Peninsula. xtraWine offers numerous bottles of Allegrini Allegrini wines that stand out for their refinement and elegance, very pleasant and capable of enveloping you with every sip, conquering even the most demanding palates. This is due to continuous improvements in production such as the introduction of the use of barriques alongside the traditional large barrels, and even a reduction in the ageing period so as not to alter too much the quality of the grapes used.

Not only Valpolicella, on xtraWine you can find Allegrini wines such as Amarone, Valpolicella and Recioto.
