Description
What kind of wine it is
Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia is a still red wine that embodies the elegance of Nebbiolo, cultivated in the Michet and Lampia sub-varieties. Visually, it displays a red hue enriched with transparent highlights. The bouquet is a harmonious interplay of leather, vanilla, rose petals, plum and citrus peel notes. On the palate, it reveals a taut and fresh structure, supported by vibrant acidity, with clear hints of cherry, anise and oregano. This Barolo stands out for its rigorous style, designed for extraordinary evolution over time.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Bussia, a renowned area of Monforte d’Alba in the heart of southern Piedmont. The vineyards of Poderi Aldo Conterno cover twenty-five hectares on hillsides, situated at around four hundred metres above sea level. The soils, characterised by a mix of calcareous marl and sand, give the wine a dynamic flavour profile and well-defined aromas. The winemaking tradition of this historic region boasts deep roots, linked to illustrious figures in Italian history such as King Charles Albert of Savoy and Count Camillo Benso di Cavour.
How it is produced
Production begins in mid-October with a meticulous manual harvest. The vinification process involves prolonged maceration in steel tanks for about a month, with temperatures kept under strict control. After racking and a brief rest in steel, the ageing continues for over two years in large Slavonian oak barrels. The result is a red wine of remarkable longevity, created to mature with great elegance in the cellar over the decades.
