Description
What kind of wine it is
Alain Geoffroy's Chablis Vieilles Vignes is a still white wine that embodies the essence of the Chablis region in Burgundy. Made from Chardonnay, it stands out for its golden straw-yellow colour with delicate greenish highlights. On the nose, it expresses a perfect balance between ripeness and freshness, releasing hints of menthol, acacia and grapefruit, enriched by notes of caramel and freshly baked bread. On the palate, the sip is powerful and enveloping, with a smoothness skilfully balanced by lively acidity. The persistent finish is characterised by a pronounced mineral imprint and a subtle touch of wood, heralding an excellent ageing potential.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in France, in the heart of the renowned Burgundy region. Alain Geoffroy cultivates his vineyards using organic and sustainable practices, enhancing the heritage of historic vines. The grapes come from old vines aged between forty-five and seventy years, situated in privileged positions with south and south-east exposure. The subsoil, composed of the characteristic Kimmeridgian limestone rich in marine fossils, imparts extraordinary energy and clarity to the wine. The longevity of the vines ensures a limited but extremely concentrated production, a faithful expression of the terroir.
How it is produced
The production process follows strict protocols aimed at preserving the purity of the raw material. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, a choice that protects the natural freshness of the grapes, followed by a period of maturation in oak barrels which gives structure and elegance without masking the primary aromas. Served at an ideal temperature between 10 and 12 degrees, this white reveals a perfect gustatory harmony. It pairs magnificently with fish dishes, such as oysters and scallops, but also goes excellently with veal sweetbreads and soft cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1850, the historic winery Alain Geoffroy cultivates 50 hectares in Burgundy following organic and sustainable practices. This exceptional Chablis is produced from old vines aged 45-70 years, facing south and south-east, with roots that delve into the renowned Kimmeridgian limestone, a marl soil rich in fossils. The meticulous vinification balances the freshness preserved by stainless steel with the elegance of maturation in oak barrels, offering a sip that expresses all the power, authenticity, and noble tradition of an inimitable French terroir.
