Description
What kind of wine it is
Agnanum Falanghina Sabbia Vulcanica is a red wine from Campania produced by Agnanum. Created from a careful blend of Barbera and Piedirosso, it appears in the glass with a bright ruby red hue crossed by light purple reflections. The aromatic profile reveals hints of wild berries intertwined with delicate floral notes. On the palate, it offers a fresh texture and a pronounced savoury streak. This still wine guarantees a smooth and balanced sip, capable of evolving positively for several years, making it an ideal accompaniment for menus based on structured meats, pork, pan-fried rabbit and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red wine has its roots in the historic area of the Phlegraean Fields, in Agnano. The vineyards grow on the hills of the Astroni Nature Reserve, an unspoilt ecosystem that defines the character of the terroir. The soils, composed of pure volcanic sand, require meticulous viticulture on steep terraced slopes, where the manual management of each individual vine is essential. The land is shaped into small basins near the vines to ensure adequate water reserves. This unique environment gives the wine a profound savoury flavour profile and a marked structural freshness.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a rigorous selection of the grape bunches, obtained from extremely low yields of thirty to forty quintals per hectare. The late harvest ensures the achievement of an ideal aromatic concentration. The vinification, overseen by oenologist Gianluca Tommaselli, employs established techniques aimed at preserving the purity of the varietals. To encourage the full expression of the sensory profile, the wine is released a year later than the harvest, allowing it to stabilise and offer a harmonious balance from the very first taste.
History and Curiosities
Born in the Astroni Nature Reserve, in the heart of the Phlegraean Fields, this Campania IGT reflects the dedication of the Moccia family. For over forty years, the family has practised heroic viticulture on steep terraces, hand-shaping the pure volcanic sand to create water basins vital for the vines. The result of a late harvest and extremely low yields, the wine rests for a year before being released on the market. A limited production of 30,000 bottles, awarded 91 points by James Suckling, which expresses a unique territorial heritage.

An accurate recovery plan, started in 1960 by the founder Gennaro Moccia and continued with equal enthusiasm by his son Raffaele who, in order to follow the company closely, gave up his free profession as an agro-technician, has made it possible to fully exploit the wine resources of this area.
The Moccia vineyards stand on the hills of the Astroni di Agnano nature reserve, where the particular slope of the hill, with its terraced layout, allows only manual management of the same, based on continuous shaping of the terrain, thus guaranteeing the right water supply through the creation of small basins created near each individual vine.
The careful selection of the grapes, the very low yields per hectare (approximately 30-40 Ql), the late harvest, and the marketing postponed for about a year after the harvest, guarantee the high quality of the final product, while any residues at the bottom of the bottles testify to its genuineness.
From the vineyard to the wine, the tradition and care of the Moccia family allow the products to be enhanced with a flavour and aroma that is always appreciated and appreciated even by the most demanding consumers.
Produced in a limited edition, Agnanum is the natural second result of winemaking using traditional methods. Read more
