Description
What kind of wine it is
Abbazia di Novacella Kerner is a still white wine from Alto Adige that expresses the identity of the Isarco Valley. Made from Kerner grapes, it reveals a clear profile, enhanced by ageing in stainless steel tanks. On the nose, it offers a floral bouquet intertwined with notes of peach, apricot, mandarin and green apple, with light resinous nuances. On the palate, it is savoury and juicy, displaying a balanced structure that leads the sip towards a persistent mineral finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the picturesque basin of Bressanone, between the municipalities of Varna and Naz-Sciaves. The vineyards are situated at altitude, between 600 and 900 metres above sea level, benefiting from optimal exposures for balanced ripening. The roots delve into morainic soils, permeable and composed of mica schist, paragneiss and quartzite. The altitude and the significant temperature variation give the wine its distinct aromatic precision, imparting a clear territorial character and a pleasant freshness to the palate.
How it is produced
The management of the vineyards, trained using the Guyot system, follows meticulous sustainable practices. The bunches are carefully selected and hand-picked to ensure perfect integrity. In the winery, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, followed by six months of ageing in stainless steel to preserve the varietal fragrance. The harmony between the residual sugar and the excellent total acidity, supported by a solid dry extract, ensures a long-lasting taste persistence.

Also owned by the Abbey is a vineyard located in South Tyrol's main wine-growing area: the Marklhof estate in Cornaiano, on the 'wine road' near Bolzano. The sandy, dry soil and the airy climate of these hills make it possible to obtain excellent red wines, including a characteristic Kalterersee, a very fine Schiava and a very elegant Pinot Noir.
A third Novacella vineyard is located in Bolzano, around the ancient and tiny St. Mary's Monastery. Here, in the dry and very warm climate of the valley floor, a full-bodied dark Lagrein matures, which is particularly suitable for ageing.
In our wine cellar, the grapes from these three vineyards are raised to wines whose distinct character and quality has been rewarded by the loyalty of generations of friends and connoisseurs. Read more
