Description

What kind of wine is it

Abate Nero Trento Brut is a Traditional Method sparkling wine made exclusively from Chardonnay. It displays a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights and a fine, persistent perlage. The bouquet reveals notes of white-fleshed fruit and delicate hints of wildflowers. On the palate, it is full and harmonious, characterised by a finish of ripe fruit and clear hints of bread crust. Its versatility and balanced taste make it ideal to accompany an entire meal.

Where does it come from

This sparkling wine originates from the Trento area, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The Abate Nero winery was founded in the 1970s by a group of friends, including the oenologist Luciano Lunelli. The chosen name pays homage to the historical figure associated with Champagne, underlining the winery's clear vocation. The production process follows an artisanal approach, based on selecting the finest grapes from the most suitable areas to ensure a faithful expression of the territory.

How is it produced

The process begins with the harvest and a gentle pressing of the bunches, followed by the first fermentation in steel tanks. The secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle according to the strict rules of the Traditional Method, with ageing on selected lees for at least twenty months. This careful maturation imparts marked aromatic finesse to the wine and helps define a balanced, deep sensory profile with long persistence.

History and Curiosities

Born in the 1970s from a group of friends, including the oenologist Luciano Lunelli, Abate Nero Brut is an Italian excellence. The name pays homage to the abbot considered the father of Champagne, highlighting its dedication to the traditional method. The company, a founder of Trento DOC, produces this artisanal Chardonnay celebrated by Gambero Rosso. The meticulous attention to maturation gives it a distinctive aromatic finesse, bringing its success beyond Trentino.

Abate Nero, whose name evokes the figure of the French abbot considered to be the ‘father’ of Champagne, was born in the early 1970s from the commitment of a few friends, including Luciano Lunelli, all linked to the agronomic and wine sector, determined to develop more and more singular, good, prestigious ‘bubbles’.

Patience is at home here, the wine rests on the lees for frothing much longer than usual. Don't be surprised, therefore, if you find dates on the label that date back a few decades. Every stage is manual, for direct control of every single bottle: only in this way does Abate Nero achieve its charm.
