Andrea Franchetti's estate is located in the Val d'Orcia, the southernmost part of Tuscany on the border with Lazio, where the Amiata and Cetona mountains, blocking the sea climate and fog of the Val di Chiana, favour a dry, continental climate and, for the altitude, very late in the year: the oaks lose their green at least a month later than in other Italian areas. The vineyards lie between 530 and 600 metres above sea level on very clayey and calcareous soils rich in minerals.
Until the 1960s, before the depopulation of the countryside, peasant wines of over 16 degrees were made here. Read more
