Masseto is controlled by the Frescobaldi Family and their long-term vision and encouragement have been paramount in building on its success. Harvest | Between 3 and 15 September the grapes were hand picked in boxes of 15 kilos in four steps according to the different parts of the vineyard. The grapes are carefully evaluated in the field were carefully selected on a double sorting table, before and after stripping. |
Wine making | After crushing, the wine has continued partly in stainless steel vats and partly in oak barrels truncated. To guide you in choosing the source from the vineyard: every part of Masseto was vinified separately. After fermentation at temperatures around 25-28 °C, followed by a maceration of 10 5 days at 28 °C, for a total time of 20-25 days in the tank. Malolactic fermentation occurred in oak barrels (100% new). |
Aging | 24 months in the temperature controlled cellars of Tenuta Ornellaia. After the first 12 months of aging, the assembly was made, and the wine was then returned to the barriques for a further 12 months. After bottling the wine was then subjected to 12 months in bottle before release. |
